Well, "publish it anyway" is a big problem for me. What if it is bad? ... Nothing. Then there will be one more bad book out, so? But what if I sit on a gem? What if these what if's stop me being a writer? That would be worse than having some bad book out.
And of course, meanwhile we practice writing, we practice publishing, too.
Absolutely right. "Publish it anyway" still nags me with every novel and every story. I just power through the negative thought and publish it anyway. Because, as you wrote, "What if I sit on a gem?" And the thing is EVERYTHING YOU PUBLISH will be a 'gem" to some readers.
