Something that's helped my writing lately is just writing an opening hook. For instance, I'll set a timer for 10-20 minutes and just focus on writing as many opening sentences with a killer hook. This was inspired by the an article about the best opening lines to classic novels. It's a fun exercise and helps to kickstart new stories.
Yup. That was always my problem. When I wrote a good hook, it most often took off into an opening. And from that point, I had to abandon the excercise so I could follow the story. :-) I know. Terrible "problem" to have. :-)

Not a bad idea. Especially if one takes off and you run with it. :-)
