Thanks for the links, especially the "You Don't Have to Earn Six Figures" article. It made me feel so much better! I hadn't consciously thought about it, but I think I had internalized the whole earning six figures from my writing while being involved in the indie publishing world. I mean, it would be nice to earn that much, obviously, but it also sounds super stressful! For now, I think I'm better off writing AND focusing on building my accounting business.
And, of course I'll continue to write into the dark every day. :) That goes without saying.
I started taking a web development course this week. Condensed 7 weeks. It's interesting but it's like learning a foreign language, takes me hours to learn one concept, and makes writing a novel look easy. It also, strangely enough, has made me miss writing.
So I'm going to try this contest. I can't promise anything great. We'll see. But thanks for the opportunity. :)
Super excited about the contest. As adamant as I am about not writing short stories at this time. But I googled around just for fun (and procrastination!) and found a Hemingway title that sounded fun. "The Killers." Read that and was like, no way. Nope, no story is coming from that. And then I had to go to work. Been taking notes all day about the story that came. lol. Will see if I can do it justice. Not going to be anything like his story, tho. 🤣.
Got ideas from it for more stories as well. Probably a series. Hopefully longer works. So, there's that, at least. If the first one is good and i choose to continue on with it, of course. And if the characters continue to tell me their stories. Not sure about it, though, as it seems like it would be a marketing nightmare. A mash-up kind of thing. But who knows. Different I guess. Hopefully in a good way.
Anyway, what was that Hemingway book you recommended before? In case anyone, myself included, wants to read some of his stories. I don't know if I had read any before that one. I don't think so. And I did not like the ending, probably why I got to thinking along the lines that I did. Plus, of course, the characters started in talking. 🤣

You're welcome, and good on you, Natalie.
Well, Harvey, you've got me hooked.

You're very welcome, Erin. Write into the dark and you'll be amazed at how good it will be. :-)

Yeah, that's a rough story, but there are a lot of characters in it. A writer could take off on any of those characters.
The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway: The Finca Vigia Edition. SO worth the money.
Guess you were right! Tried another short story yesterday and voilà a new story idea. 🤣
Went with "A Clean, Well-lighted Place" this time.
Ooh, that's easily one of my favorites among his stories.
I'm, of course, again going quite a different route with mine. 🤣
I look forward to reading it. I've had only one submission thus far.
