Wow! That is amazing. I write in my journal in a similar fashion so I may be able to embody my character through that same process. I didn’t think to do it that way. Thank you so much Ann! I am excited to get started on this new adventure!

I just realized that many times when I've said Beta reader, I meant First reader! Duh...

I enjoyed Brain Food. Did not know where it was going until the very last sentence. How brilliant!!!!

I may do your November challenge but I am nervous to commit to this because I am a person that writes vs a person that is a writer. I am embarking on a nascent journey into writing a historical non fiction story that has captivated me. I want to give your challenge a shot but don’t blacklist me if I fall short. I may try another challenge again in the future.

I will take your nonfiction book if I meet the goal.

Thank you so much for your daily posts. You are a source of inspiration, solidarity and valuable information for a novice like me. Your help is invaluable!

Thanks, Manisha. I won't blacklist you in any event. :-) And read the post again. Even if you slip during the challenge, come at it again the next day. Your weekly average is what matters.

I am away for a full week in November 16-23 so for that week I will be handwriting. I will come home Sunday and type it up to get my word count.

Any recommendations when you are handwriting away from home?

As a correction, I am writing a historical fiction novel (or novella). It is essentially a true story but I am creating my own narrative.

Thank you for all your support!

Hi Manisha. I know only one other person who writes regularly by hand. I'll let her know about your comment so maybe she will respond too. The only advice I can give is the same as if you took a laptop with you: Try to be sure to carve out some time every day to write. Even if you write only a little, that will be far better (and give you a better feeling) than if you don't write at all. :-)

Hi, Manisha! Handwriting is entirely doable. The hard part is interpreting the scribbly handwriting.

Handwriting is, for me at least, a great way to practice writing into the dark, or zen writing or whatever. Any working pen will do and any paper (I tend to use scrap because that's what I have way too much of, but a nice lined tablet works well too) and some kind of writing surface.

Taking my glasses off and getting literally right down onto the paper works great as an isolation device. (Also ink on the nose.) Your choice... but ear buds with your favorite meditation music works well too.

And then just write. Don't think about it, just write. Only pen and paper matter physically, and mentally only the story mattters. Lose yourself.

It's kind of like guided meditation. Every time some extraneous thought wanders in, shoo it away and get back on track.

Hope that helps!

Ann Stratton
