Love the analogy!

I'm listening with rapt attention, and a desire to go out and do good, and even singing shyly with the choir now and again, but still shaking off the depredations of the storm before I stumbled into the haven. So, working on heading back out to preach, but still building strength within myself and habits within myself, which is where that daily/weekly communion with like-minded people is helping heal and strengthen me for the long haul. And you need to remember, that like all missionaries...you never know the exponential lives you touch in the future, when you are only seeing the few in front of you now. You never know how many others that they will touch because of you.

Thanks, Tiff. One may only hope. And re "working on heading out to preach," I'll give you the same advice Dean gave me all those years ago. "Don't tell anybody about your process."

Most writers won't believe you anyway, and most readers will assume (and tell others) your fiction is trash without ever having read a word of it.

If I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't have started the Journal. I would have just written my fiction. As Hemingway said (paraphrasing), "It's nobody's business that you had to learn how to write. Let them think you were born that way." :-)

Yes, but I have the same weakness that you have....I love to teach.
