Maybe its about where the focus is. If we don't want to believe something has happened, we put or focus on the 'unbelievable' part. But it is just a tip.

But focus is there to what the characters sees, hears, smell, and how they interpret it. What is that they see in a film? It is different for each characters.

I started a short story this week with this kind of focus - I have a character who sees the world differently, and sometimes what he experiences about the world is kind of 'unbelievable'. I use the technique (if it is a technique) where what I don't tell is at least as important as what I tell... It's about character voice.

Great topic, made me thinking.
